Sales Assistants are the heart of our business, delivering great service to our customers. It’s a busy, fast paced role that includes serving on tills, replenishing stock, and learning about our products so that they can work together as a team to create a first-class shopping experience.

Store Leaders guide and coach the team to deliver the day to day tasks and routines and support the Cluster Managers whilst giving great customer service to our customers.

Our Cluster Managers lead a number of stores to deliver profitable sales and growth by supporting the Store Leaders and Sales Assistants to give the best possible service to our customers.

Our Area Managers are experienced senior retail leaders who lead several Clusters. They lead and inspire our store teams to deliver amazing KPI results through data driven decisions and great looking stores.

Post Office Counter Clerks use their strong communication skills and accuracy to support customers with their postal needs. It is a fast-paced role that involves attention to detail and a high level of initiative to deliver a great shopping experience for our customers.

Our Post Office Operations Managers ensure the effective running of the Post Office, delivering long term profitable commission and growth. They work closely with the Store Leaders and Cluster Managers to give our customers a great shopping experience.

Our Commercial and Trading teams work hard to build amazing partnerships and negotiate the best deals on over 200,000 products across the business. We innovate at pace always looking for the next ‘must-have’ items that our customers want. When we say we’re agile and entrepreneurial we really mean it, which is why we’re still evolving after 230 years.

We’ve got major transformation going on in our digital business, with heavy investment into changing the way the business operates for the better. Working on over 200 projects across the globe, our Technology team are excited and expanding to support our strategic goals.

Our Marketing and Design team define our brand by offering inspirational products to our customers, whether it’s through the store environment, POS (Point Of Sale), or new product designs. Understanding how our customers shop is key so that we market our products in the right way, at the right time.

We aim to attract the best talent so that once people join, they never want to leave! Our Procurement team work across the whole WHSmith Group and manage all indirect procurement activity (which is everything that we don’t sell to our customers) providing best practice support internally and externally, ensuring that contracts are compliant, cost effective and effectively maintained.

Central Operations is the hub through which all activity, communications and services between stores and the central business units flows. The team focus on supporting the store and field teams to deliver their results alongside working on exciting projects like new promotion launches, store refits and innovation.

Our Finance team are key to setting the pace for key business decisions, shaping our budgets and analysing our sales with forensic detail. It goes without saying that managing costs and making sure that our most vital stats are accurate is key. We focus on adding value to the business and driving commercial performance, in a fun and collaborative way.

Delivering a personalised shopping experience via whsmith.co.uk and our other online brands, connecting customers with the products they want, when they want them, is all down to our online teams. We work closely with other functions across the business to ensure our eCommerce offering is maximised across all our digital channels.

Our Merchandising team makes sure the right stock is in the right place at the right time! We crunch through all the historical data, whilst always focusing on our current stock position and forecasts for the future, juggling more than 200,000 products at any one time so we can meet the demands of our customers.

Our Customer Services team looks after both our High Street and Travel stores, and their customers as well as WHSmith.co.uk, our social media accounts and InMotion. We are committed to solving any queries however small, and pride ourselves on being friendly and empathetic with all our customers.

Our Space and Layout teams are responsible for delivering projects that influence our in-store customer proposition. They analyse with forensic detail, how our customers shop so that we deliver them the best possible products and experience, personalised to each of our shopping formats.

Our Construction and Maintenance teams are fundamental to delivering strategic growth ambitions, focusing on our new store development pipeline as well as refurbishment and renewal of our existing estate. With over 150 new stores in our sights, we’ve got great plans.
