With over 1000 stores across the UK, across several different formats; ranging from airports to post offices to our flagship high street stores the challenges in each are variable to say the least. The environment in stores can be unpredictable and very eventful and requires individuals that thrive in a changeable setting. What we look for from our teams in stores however is the same; we want hands on, enthusiastic individuals that have a real passion for retail.
Every member of the team is vital to the success of the store, whether that be a Sales Assistant providing excellent customer service or the Store Manager reviewing the Profit & Loss statement. There is a real team work ethic in our stores and this level of commitment is something we look to be embedded into our employees.
High Street Stores
There are over 600 stores on nearly every town and city, WHSmith continues to hold its presence on an ever changing high street.
Each of our stores is fast-paced, stimulating and varied which makes for a thrilling place to work. High Street stores face many peaks of busy periods of trading that are either seasonal; Christmas, Easter and ‘Back to School’ or the daily before and after work and lunch rush. Typically our high street stores are bigger in size and have larger teams so it is essential that our people can respond to these demands whilst always ensuring we deliver retail basics – good customer service and team work
Travel Stores
The business operates from over 500 units in airports, railway stations, motorway service areas, hospitals, bus stations and workplaces. The environment isn’t for everyone as the stores tend to be more compact, have a higher footfall and some of our airport stores are open from 5am to 11pm. This can make for an intense and very exciting trading environment.
Travel stores cater for customers on the move so they have less time to browse, so we look for people to join us who demonstrate real energy, can-do attitude and bags of initiative.
